The Pennsylvania General Assembly is considering a bill to improve the way information regarding nursing home abuse and neglect is collected and shared among various government entities. According to the Reading Eagle, an investigation in November that found of the more than 1,800 cases of substantiated nursing home abuse, only three were referred to the state attorney general’s office for prosecution from 2009 through 2015. This number is woefully inadequate and is in part due to a lack of transparency in the way thePennsylvania Department of Health and Human Services and Pennsylvania Department of Aging handle complaints and investigations. Our seniors deserve bettwe and we applaud the efforts of these representatives from both sides of the aisle. If you live in PA, call your representative or senator and urge their support.
